Behind The Camera

My work is driven by the idea that visual storytelling and images have the power to change the world.

About Heather Chapin

I am a journalist, photographer, and visual storyteller that is based out of Vancouver, B.C.

With a background in journalism and photojournalism, I approach my work with curiosity, empathy, and a commitment to ethical storytelling. I’ve worked with individuals, nonprofits, and media outlets to help bring important stories to light—stories that build understanding, challenge assumptions, and inspire connection.

My work is grounded in a deep respect for the communities and people I document. I focus on real people—true, human, and often overlooked. Whether I am capturing long-form narratives or everyday moments; I aim for my work to reflect care, creativity and intention.

I have worked across a wide range of environments—from personal portraits to in-depth editorial assignments and fast-paced events including professional sports.

These experiences have made me a well-rounded and adaptable photographer capable of documenting anyone and anything with sensitivity, the desire to learn, and the ability to approach my work with purpose.

I believe in photography not just as art, but as a tool for listening, witnessing, and amplifying voices that need to be heard.

If you’re looking for someone to document your project, community, or story with honesty and heart—I’d love to connect.
